What We Do
Heat Treating Services
Precision hardening for high-speed steel cutting tools and specialty steel components. We deliver consistent results to exact Rockwell hardness specifications.
Our Process
Receive & Inspect
Tools arrive, are weighed, ticketed, and inspected for pre-existing damage before treatment begins.
Furnace Loading
Tools are loaded into the appropriate furnace based on size. We have 9 furnaces ranging 48" to 90" in depth.
Heat Treatment
Tools are brought to precise temperatures — high-speed steels require significantly higher temps than standard tool steels.
Rockwell Testing
Every tool is tested against the customer's specified hardness range using Wilson or Clark Digital Rockwell machines.
Straightening
Heat treating can cause slight distortion. Our straightening area corrects this using presses and flattening benches.
Blast & Finish
Surface scale removed via Pangborn 72" shot blast or vapor blast for a finer finish.
Final Inspection
Final hardness verified and shank condition inspected before packing and shipping.
Pack & Ship
Shipped via UPS or freight nationwide. Metro Detroit customers can use our local pickup and delivery service.
Certification
Every certified job gets a complete record: temps, quench method, number of draws, and final Rockwell reading.
Primary Specialty
Broach Hardening
Broaches are multi-tooth linear cutting tools used to machine complex shapes — keyways, splines, round holes, flat surfaces — in a single pass. They are among the most expensive and precision-sensitive cutting tools in manufacturing.
We are specialists in broach heat treating, serving the densest concentration of broach users in the country — metro Detroit's manufacturing corridor.
Our 9 furnaces range from 48" to 90" depth, and we are one of only ~2 companies in the USA that can vertically harden a broach over 90 inches in length.

Steel Grades
Materials We Treat
We specialize in high-speed steels requiring extreme temperatures — grades most general heat treaters are not equipped to process.
| Grade | Type | Working HRC | Common Use |
|---|---|---|---|
| M-2 | High-Speed Steel | 63–65 | General-purpose broaches — most common HSS grade |
| M-42 / CPM Rex 20 | Cobalt HSS | 66–68 | Aerospace and difficult-to-machine materials |
| T-15 / PMT-15 | Cobalt-Tungsten HSS | 64–68 | Highest-performance HSS tooling |
| CPM Rex 76 | Powder Metal HSS | 67–69 | Extreme wear and red hardness applications |
| D-2 / Airdi 150 | Cold Work Tool Steel | 60–62 | Dies, molds, non-broach tooling |
| A-2 / Airkool | Air-Hardening Tool Steel | 60–62 | Dies and punches — minimal distortion |
| H-13 / Nu-Die | Hot Work Die Steel | 44–52 | Die casting dies, injection molds |
| S-7 | Shock-Resistant Tool Steel | 55–58 | Punches, shear blades, impact tooling |
